Groups in the shop
What to Expect
Making a toy car is a 20 step process. We need a lot of volunteers to do this. When you come to the shop, we'll start you with a tour and show you why we do what we do and how it gets done. Then we'll put you to work for 1.5 to 2 hours.
Every day is a little different a long the assembly line. We'll look at what our greatest need is and start there. Sometimes it's machines, or tracing a pattern, sometimes we have painting or wheeling.
There is always something for everyone, although everything is not for everyone. Teens and adults can paint the cars and work the machines. Kids love tracing patterns or doing hand sanding. And there is always wheeling for the smallest helpers.
Everyone should wear closed-toe shoes in any part of the shop. If you want to work a machine you can bring your own personal protective equipment including; gloves, masks, eye protection and ear protection.
Schedule
We have a limited number of spots so we ask that groups schedule with us before coming in.

What we do is needed and in demand. If you make an appointment, make every effort to keep it. We probably said no to another groups for the same appointment, and if you cancel last minute that means nobody was making toys at that time.
We work Tuesdays, and Thursdays between 11 am and 3 pm and Wednesdays between 11 am and 6 pm.
We also come back in the evenings, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for a 6:30 or 7:00 pm shift.
Corporations
We ask for a contribution for volunteer groups to support our mission and cover costs. Contributions are made on a sliding-scale basis with a $500 minimum.
We're confident you'll contribute at the highest rate you're able:
Small local company or nonprofit - $500 -$1,500
Medium sized company or nonprofit - $1,500 - $3,000
Large corporation - $3,000 -$5,000+
What does it look like?
1. Arrive at the toy shop
Carpooling or parking across the street is helpful as parking is limited.
2. Welcome
Everyone needs to sign in and gather together. Sign is electronic and will be checked upon arrival. You can have everyone sign ahead of time here.
3. Learning Tour
It's a big process and you'll want to see it all to know how your piece fits in. We'll talk about how we got started, why we do what we do and show you all the steps so you can see what goes into. We'll decide what activities are the best for each person or group that day.
4. Get started
Each station requires some training and demonstration. It will take longer if we have more people and more stations to learn, but we'll get everyone going in a timely fashion and work for 1 to 2 hours.
5. Closing
At the end of your time we'll clean up the machines and stations and gather together for a few minutes to share our experiences and stories.
Additional Option
You're welcome to schedule a private team meeting, or a shared meal before, during or after the volunteer day. Let us know ahead of time so we can have that set up.
