Sewing Projects

Help us sew up some much needed items for women and children. Most of these items go to Zimbabwe and surrounding countries, but have reached many parts of the world along with the toy cars.

Come into the shop for supplies and instructions, or get the instructions here and donate your own fabric, yarn or t-shirts.

Sewing shop is open on Tuesdays from 10 am to 2 pm to get supplies, patterns and answer questions.

Quilts

We need quilts! You can tie them, make a top, put the fronts and backs together, or cut and sew the squares that make the quilt tops.

Just cutting the squares for someone else to sew is helpful too! It helps to wrap a child in warmth this winter!

They can be made of any material, and be any size. All are needed.

Receiving Blankets

Sweet babies born in Zimbabwe and other parts of Africa need a warm and comfy blanket and these receiving blankets are easy to make and fill a great need.

Just one square piece of flannel, single side with the edges surged or hemmed.

They are cut to about 45 x 45, leaving the selvedge edges intact and hemming the other two sides.

They do not need to be doubled as they are going to warm climates.

Baby Wraps

Baby and mom are one whether they are doing chores, spending time together or at work. These baby wraps help keep baby safe and warm and mom's hands free to help.

Similar to the blankets, these wraps are made of knit fabric and cut to a rectangle, leaving the selvedge edges intact and surging or hemming the other two sides.

They are 65 or 70 inches long, depending on if you have 45 or 60 inch wide fabric. Usually made of knit, gauze or flannel and sometimes cotton.

Fleece Blankets

Great project for those who don't know how to sew or don't have the supplies for a group.

1.5 yards of fleece will make a great blanket. Instructions on how to tie them can be found online.

We also get smaller squares of fleece donated that can be sewn into blankets.

Diapers

Flannel cloth diapers are a must have in Zimbabwe and other countries in Africa. Without the ability to get more, a cloth diaper gives a mom and baby comfort and cleanliness.

They can be made of any soft flannel with plenty of absorbing materials in the center.

Add two diaper pins to each one and baby and mom are all set.
